Josie Update 2/27

Josie has been having fun with her old friend, Stash
(she seems to have turned him into a couch) and her
new friend, Jinga, the 5-month old German short hair.
Jinga is only a month older than Josie, but she seems
so much bigger...very leggy and lanky. But what Josie
lacks in size, she more than makes up in stamina
and persistence...the last picture shows that she
finally stole the bone away from Jinga. Yay!

Josie has also been doing great in her train-and-play
class. She has the sit, down, heel and here absolutely
nailed, and she even did a long down for over 10
minutes...I was impressed (am I too easy?).
We've started working on "leave it", but with Josie
being such a food monster, that's going to take
a little work. But we're getting there!

Josie Update 2/19

(Sorry this update has been a wee bit overdue...)

Here are some photos of Josie making herself at home
at the next door neighbor's house and terrorizing...er,
I mean, playing with their pupster. She just loves to
romp with Uncle Stash!

Weight at 16 weeks

My how times flies!
It's hard to believe the pups are already 16 weeks old.

Here are the weights that I have so far:

Josie...................18 lbs
Bree....................20 lbs
Dante...................21 lbs
Ren.....................24 lbs
Salsa....................24 lbs
Rogan..................27 lbs
Jaspar................29.5 lbs

(Sorry, it's taken me a little time to get this posted.
It's been a helluva week.)

Dante 2/22/09

Treeva and Dante square off. Dante has given Treeva a second puppyhood. She is so tolerant and patient of his constant mouthing. I'm sure she will be happy when those needle sharp teeth are gone.

Dante practiced show stacking. He won't stand for long - so it was a quick, snap the picture moment. He does most anything for a treat, but loses interest quickly. Dante had a visitor!! Mark recently broke his leg sledding and Dante was happy to give him some quality dog time and kisses. Mark loves dogs and was thrilled to visit with him.

We have been busy here in Wisconsin and Dante seems to be growing by leaps and bounds. Last weekend he went swimming (I wish I had brought the camera along to capture it). Our Vizsla club met at a facility that has a doggie swimming pool and offered an opportunity to swim our dogs. Dante wasn't so sure he like it, but picked up the general swimming idea pretty quickly. Then he had an opportunity to meet lots of red dogs at the meeting.

We have determined he is pretty much potty trained when this morning he waited by the door whining to go out (John was upstairs and his whining alerted him). Yeah!!!!

Yesterday we got more snow and had an opportunity to play out in it - I discovered Dante no longer dislikes snow now that he is taller and it doesn't brush his belly when he goes outside in it.

He has quickly outgrown his 3rd coat - in a matter of 3 weeks (yikes!!)

Things he's learned: Sit, Down, Wait, Go to your Cage, Here, Stand, he is learning - "touch" - contact word for agility. While nothing is completely confirmed (is it ever :) ) he has relative competence in what the words mean. We also introduced the dog walk and tunnel at our last class. It is so much fun to see him learn and understand!!!!

Party time!

While I was putting away the groceries, the girls
decided to have a little party...

Ren's first dog show

Ren would like to tell her brothers and sisters that they
should definitely try this "dog show" thing. All the people
there have yummy treats! (and fun-looking dogs, but
Mommy was VERY REPRESSIVE and would not let all
the dogs romp and wrestle -- except that we did get
to run with some other vizslas in a BIG field)

Mommy seemed to like the ribbon. I don't know why.
I liked the squeaky toy!

Rogan 2/13

Rogan was a sleepy boy this morning after breakfast
and insisted on being on the computer chair with me.
He's BEHIND me. I think there's a V gene for this.

10 random things about Jaspar

1. Jaspar is unbelievably beautiful.

2. I love to watch him walk, run, look at me so
quizzically or tenderly.

3. Jaspar is a girl magnet. They flock to him. All ages.

4. He loves to watch TV. He paid special attention to
Westminster. Also, beautiful anchor women on the news.
Gets right up in front of the TV and wiggles his tail and
whole body, "Hey, girls, check me out!"

5. He is going to be a service doggie for me, and
already is doing fabulous.

6. I take him with me a lot to campus, the stores, the mall.
Nothing phases him. He trots along proudly.

7. And he is soooooo calm no matter what noise or
excitement around him.

8. He loves to play with Diva, especially tug-of-war
and doggie wrestling.

9. He loves everybody!

10. He still likes to be carried like a baby -in spite of
his 25 pounds + ?? now. I have him sit to be picked up,
and then he makes himself all wobbly relaxed and floppy,
like a baby, and then puts his head on my shoulder.

10 random things about Josie

10 random things about Josie:

1. Josie knows she can make her parents crack up when she runs
crazy puppy patterns in the yard...and yes, in the house, too
(watch out for that chair!).

2. She loves to sit near the fireplace and soak up the heat...
not that she's had many opportunities to do so where she lives.

3. She thinks the blow dryer is attacking Mom and tries to
     defend her.

4. She's small...we think because she poops everything out.
She's a poop machine!

5. She is the best little bed bug in the world. Such a cuddle button!

6. She will eat anything she can get her teeth on...who needs
     biscuits when there are vegetables?

7. She not only has stopped fussing when she's put in her crate,
she will actually voluntarily hang out in it on occasion.

8. After squeaky toys, the stairs are her favorite form of
     entertainment.

9. She has the sweetest face in the world...but only because
     cute was already taken. :-)

10. Like many of her siblings, she charms everyone she meets
     with her silly, wiggly butt.

10 random things about Ren

Ten random things about Ren:

1. She likes to sleep stretched full length against me --
or against *her* setter.

2. She thought the visiting husky had a GOOD idea about
digging lots of holes.
3. She loves her human so much that she will actually
STOP digging holes when her human complains.

4. She thinks sticks are good to eat (see photo).

5. She is VERY fond of Greek yogurt.

6. She completely charms new people, who comment,
"Oh, she's so MELLOW!" (No, actually she's just a big
kiss-up. Should be good for the conformation ring.)

7. She likes to walk around underneath her setter
while he's walking. We told her she would soon
be too large to do that. She snorted.

8. Speaking of which, she does SNORT when she thinks
the humans have said something especially stupid. I love it.
Her great-aunt AJ did the same thing.

9. She has the cutest face in the world. (Yeah, I know,
all you other owners think YOUR puppy does.)

10. She can climb ladders.
(We moved the ladders. We are real spoil-sports.)
